Like many of the top entertainers. Peggi Blu first sang the day she was born. The doctor told her mother. Mrs, Avis Blue that she was not due to deliver Peggi yet ・ she had at least another two to three hours to dilate. And just as he turned to walk out of the delivery room, Peggi, as the doctor put it, “popped out all in one piece”, completely on her own, no spanking needed. Her eyes were open. She sighed and her grandmother. Lenora said, “OH LISTEN! SHE’S SINGING!” And this is where we get the phrase “She Came Into The World Singing”. Peggi Blu grew up singing in Mount Sinai Church in North Carolina in one of the choirs that her mother. who was also a singer. directed. Peggi comes from a very long line of talented singers. mus’ ans, Bishop’s Pastors. and Missionaries, etc. Her very first solo performance was when she was three years old, singing for the mayor of her town after he had won the election there. The song Peggi sang was taught to her by her grandfather, Rev. James, called “When The Roll ls Called Up Yonder”. She turned professional that day because she got paid and by the time she was twelve years old, Peggi had covered most of the state of North Carolina and Virginia singing gospel music. At the age of fourteen her mother agreed to allow Peggi to go to New York with her uncle Bishop Walter to join his gospel group. Peggi became one of his main soloists and was in her best element when she was on stage telling stories and painting pictures in song. She received lots of attention and acclaim onstage for her spiritual and soulful performances.

At the age of sixteen Peggi met and began performing with a popular gospel group in the city called The Nat Lewis Singers. Soon after jo ng that group they scored a lucrative contract to perform gospel shows on stage in Las Vegas for packed houses. Her uncle said when asked. “Well, she can go. But only if the powers that hired the group send along a school teacher to keep up with her school work and a chaperone for protection”. They said yes. he signed the work papers and she went. Upon the group’s return to New York they were then offered a contract in a show called “Gospel On Broadway“ with other well-known groups such as The Herman Stephens Singers, Clara Walker and The Redeemers, The Coral Maulsby Singers and so on.
